We received a letter today regarding the Lennox Elite Series G50 gas furnace from Mick in Wildwood, New Jersey. He used our simple Share an HVAC Price form to pass along the information. Since HVAC prices can be challenging to find unless you actually meet with a contractor, we appreciate our readers helping us get this useful information into your hands as you consider your own purchase. Here’s what Mick has to say.
“I just completely gutted a house down here by the shore. It was a total mess, but since I got it really cheap and do all the work myself, it’s a bargain. I pulled out the furnace which I don’t think was working anyway. It had to be 25 years old. When I’m done with the house I may live in it or I may sell it, so I didn’t want to spend too much on the furnace. But I don’t want junk either. The Lennox Elite Series G50 gas furnace seemed to have the right combination of quality and affordability. My reasons included the 92.1 AFUE which is good enough for Energy Star, Durolak Plus heat exchanger, the secondary heat exchanger for greater efficiency, a quiet motor and insulated cabinet, no pilot light – uses a SureLight glow plug, dual fuel capability for use with a Lennox heat pump. The limited warranty is life on the heat exchanger and 5 years on parts.
If I stay in the house I probably won’t add a heat pump but I know a lot of people like them so it may be a good sales point if I sell the house. I went with a 70,000 Btu/hour unit for the 1,400 square foot ranch home and it heats great. I’m very happy with the choice. My cost was $1,599 for the furnace and $2,000 for the installation, or $3,599 total. I do a lot of home remodeling but never mess with wiring so I left the furnace install to a qualified contractor who does A-1 work. I’ve flipped a dozen houses in the last few years and he’s done all the installation. I haven’t had one complaint about the furnaces I’ve used. You hear that any furnace is only as good as the installation and this guy makes me a believer in that. I totally recommend the Lennox Elite Series G50 furnace.”
