Often we get asked to recommend a high-quality, “bare bones” furnace with high efficiency and a great service record. The Goodman Multi-Position, 95% AFUE — GMH95 Gas Furnace comes immediately to mind. You’ll notice as you peruse our HVAC prices section that their price point is tough to beat and they offer reliable service and a great warranty. Here’s a note from Troy in Duluth, MN who expounds on these qualities. Thanks for sharing, Troy – we welcome stories like this so other readers can learn from their experience.

“I was a home builder here in Duluth until the housing market crashed and then I turned my efforts to buying up repossessed houses and selling them or renting them. I’ve learned through experience to immediately check the age of the furnace and, regardless of brand, if it’s over 8 years old I replace it so I can have full confidence in the furnaces I offer in rentals or homes for sale. After doing a ton of research to find the right combination of affordability and dependability I have settled on Goodman gas furnaces. I especially like the Goodman Multi-Position GMH95 Gas Furnace for a number of reasons:
The 95% efficiency of these models is better than gas furnaces that cost 2-3 times as much. This has become a huge sales point for me here in northern Minnesota because both renters and buyers know their heating bills won’t be outrageous even with our cold winters.
One thing I never do is to install gas furnaces myself. I use a qualified contractor for liability purposes, plus I like the security it gives me of having someone to call if there’s a problem. I use two different contractors here. The one I prefer charges $1,700 to $2,000 depending on the installation requirements. The other is about %10 less but I never feel he does as good a job and only use him when I have to. Thanks for giving me a chance to put in a plug for Goodman since they have served me very well the last 5-6 years that I’ve been using them.”
