• American Standard Platinum XM Allegiance 16 Central Air Conditioner Price

American Standard makes a good range of central air conditioners to fit each need or budget.  The American Standard Platinum XM Allegiance 16 Central Air Conditioner is a mid-range model with excellent 17 SEER and an affordable price tag.  It’s a good choice for energy savings in warm to moderate climates.  Sammy in Orlando offers his American Standard Platinum XM Allegiance 16 central air conditioner price which we’ll add to our database of HVAC prices so you can compare models and prices as you consider your own purchase.  Sammy writes:

“With energy costs continuing to go up, and with the recent tax credit opportunity we replaced our 14 year old system last fall, between cooling and heating seasons.  I probably could’ve got 5 more years out of it, but it was a 8 SEER unit and I felt like I was wasting money every month when I’d see how affordable 16-18 SEER units were.  So I took the plunge.  I had 4 dealers out to give me central air conditioner prices – whole system prices really, but I was most concerned about the A/C since it gets far more work than the furnace.

I settled on the American Standard Platinum XM Allegiance 16 with a compatible 90% efficient furnace because I thought it offered the best value – a good balance of low cost and high efficiency.  I wasn’t thrilled with the guys the company sent to install it, however.  They took half a day just to get the old unit out and tore down some duct work in the process.  It fell and put a nice dent in the top of the dryer.  The wife was ticked off.  Then they took an hour and a half lunch break and came back a little too happy in my opinion.  By the end of the day they had got almost nowhere.  I went outside and called the company owner on the phone and told him my concerns, which he thanked me for, saying he’d look into it.

The next day a different crew showed up and I honestly don’t know what happened to the original boneheads.  The new crew finished the installation by 2 in the afternoon, tested the system and showed me how to use it.  They were great.  They had called the owner and he showed up as they were wrapping things up.  He apologized again for the problems with the other crew.  He looked at the dryer and offered to take $100 off the final bill.  The dent didn’t affect the performance of the dryer but I accepted it and will put it toward a new dryer for my wife, since she’s the one that has to look at that dent more than I do.

Here’s what the system set me back:

2 ton American Standard Platinum XM A/C with coil and compatible furnace: $3,200

    Installation: $2,500; Total: $5,700

I won’t make up the cost in 3 years or anything, but I’d have to replace the system in 4-6 years anyway, and saving $400-$500 a year easily on electricity will make it worth it over time.”

Sammy’s letter makes the good point that if you have concerns about the crew sent to install your equipment, don’t hesitate to make a phone call to the owner or the supervisor.  And be sure to do what you can to check on references ahead of time to avoid these issues if possible.
